Welcome to the Sticky Notes Mosaic Generator! This creative tool lets you transform your favorite photos into captivating mosaics, constructed entirely from virtual sticky notes. Whether you're looking to create a fun design, a personalized gift, or simply explore a unique form of digital art, this app makes it easy and enjoyable.
At the moment the functionality is very basic, but I work on adding more color schemes and background images.
The generated image can be downloaded as PNG in a resolution of 3750 x 2500 pixels. If you choose the "Transparent PNG" background you get, well, an image with a transparent background, perfect for layering over your own designs in any graphics software.

A Brief History of Post-it Notes
Believe it or not, Post-it Notes came into existence entirely by accident. Back in 1968, a 3M scientist named Dr. Spencer Silver was trying to invent a super-strong adhesive. Instead, he ended up with something quite the opposite—a glue that was reusable and only lightly sticky. At first, no one at 3M knew what to do with it.
Fast forward to 1974, when Art Fry, one of Dr. Silver’s colleagues, had a simple but frustrating problem: his bookmarks kept falling out of his choir hymnal. That’s when he remembered Silver’s adhesive and had a lightbulb moment. By using the low-tack glue, Fry created a sticky bookmark prototype. It worked so well that the first sticky notes were born.
Fun fact: the bright yellow color wasn’t a deliberate choice—it just happened to be the color of the scrap paper the team had lying around while testing. Turns out, that cheerful yellow was a stroke of genius, making Post-it Notes instantly recognizable when they hit store shelves under the Post-it brand in 1980.
Since then, sticky notes have come a long way. While Post-it Notes remain iconic, there are now plenty of other brands offering sticky notes in a rainbow of colors, shapes, and sizes. Whether you’re jotting down a quick reminder, brainstorming big ideas, or just doodling for fun, sticky notes have become an everyday essential — and a beloved part of modern life.
